The usual morning trip to HGF didn't produce much new. Two Little Grebes were present and the Coot numbers had increased to 39 - Tufties still on 41 and 9 of both Pochard and Great Crested Grebe. To be fair I was pushed for time again this morning and didn't stay long.

I noticed Jonathan has picked up both Greenshank and Green Sandpiper at Moat Lane pools recently. I had a wander over today and got neither. On pool 1 were the pair of LRP's with the two older juveniles while on pool 2 I only saw a male and just one little ball of fluff. The Redshank was still present though I only saw one juvenile. A Sparrowhawk flew over pool 2 while I was watching the LRP's and this flushed a flock of around 45 Linnets which had been feeding at the back of the pool. I found a rather shabby looking Willow Tit in the bushes on the dividing bank and a Kingfisher flew off the back of pool 1 and rather bizzarely seemed to fly off across the moss. The next stretch of water in the direction it was headed is Woolsten Eyes! Three Buzzards were also hanging around the pools.

This evening I took Bill for a walk around Newton Lake - haven't been here for a while. The hoped for birds materialised in the form of three Green Sandpipers on the mud flat at the back of the pool. The usual pair of Mute Swans were present - no sign of any young though. I think it's around five years now since this pair successfully reared any young. The usual pair of Canada's have five well grown youngsters and a couple of Tufties were also present. A Buzzard also lifted out of the trees at the back of the pool.

Waterworks Lane this evening - a Yellowhammer, 2 Stock Doves, 4 Grey Partridges and 29 Swallows feeding over the field behind our house. The male Bullfinch was on the feeders in the garden again - I hope the absence of sightings of the female simply means that she is incubating. A Kestrel flew over work (Glazebrook) today carrying what looked like a small bird.
