Bar-tailed and Black-tailed Godwits plus female Scaup at Scalestone Point, Morecambe

Moonrise over Caton

Herring, Black-headed and Mediterranean Gulls, Heysham

November 6th

Called in at the north harbour wall at Heysham this morning. An adult Med on the railings was the pick of the birds. A flock of 82 Eiders was out beyond the channel and a single Great Crested Grebe floated nearby. A Skylark also flew over.

Heysham was not inspiring this morning so I moved to Morecambe. A decent wader flock was around Scalestone Point around 2 hours after high tide. 534 Black-tailed Godwits, 4 Bar-tails, 450+ Dunlin and 300+ Knot were feeding in the mud. 4 Pintails, a female Scaup, a Red-breasted Merganser and, slightly unusually, a female Gadwall were in the water just offshore. A flock of 43 Pink-footed Geese also flew over – a nice entertaining session!
