Little Egrets at Bolton-Le-Sands
10th March
I started this morning at Heysham. Had a quick natter with
Pete Marsh and then walked up along the north harbour wall. It was quiet to be
honest. A couple of Meadow Pipits were on the mound and 10 Twite at the feeding
station and two Shags in the harbour. A quick check of the wooden jetty produced
the two Purple Sands with a flock of around 80 Knot. It didn’t feel like a
migration day, however it was a pleasant stroll. Next I dropped in to
Bolton-Le-Sands where I expected the salt marsh to flood and it did.
Unfortunately there was bugger all around because a few dog walkers had decided
to walk out to the water’s edge and had flushed everything. Off shore at least
there were a few birds around – Eiders, Red-breasted Mergansers and at least 11
Pintails. There was little on the groynes along Morecambe front either – very
disappointing all round. At the van tonight I did at least pick up two Tawny
Owls who flew around the park constantly calling.
