Richmond was a bore

9th March
Two Ringed Plovers were welcome visitors to HGF this morning. Nothing else has changed though, however a drake Tufted Duck was loafing on the bank and it had a loop of plastic wrapped round its bill. It didn’t seem troubled by it though. 55 Tree Sparrows and 19 Yellowhammers were at the feeding station.
Mid day I managed to get a couple of hours at Richmond Bank, however I had not checked the tide. I knew high tide was around this time but hadn’t realised it was one of the high spring tides which completely cover the bank. I arrived to find Ian McKerchar and Pete Berry just about to leave – they had seen the usual bunch of goodies plus a tidal bore going upriver! I stayed afterwards until the bank was exposed and although some gulls did come back, the only one of note was a Yellow-legged Gull. A Sparrowhawk also flew over the bank.
