Though unfortunately for Karen today we didn't get snowed in as she had hoped. Consequently I was off to Burnley again today.

This morning the 4 Grey Partridges (back together) were in the garden. Driving down Waterworks Lane half an hour later I noticed the field seemed a bit busy so I stopped for a quick look. The 4 Grey Partridges were now here with 16 Woodies, 70+ Chaffinches, 4 Reed Buntings, 8 Yellowhammers, 7 Tree Sparrows and 3 Bramblings ( 2 males and a female). The snow seemed quite deep on the field this morning and the temperature gauge in my car read 0C.

Late afternoon the finch flock was wheeling around Waterworks Lane when I set off for a quick trip to Pennington Flash. One of the male Bramblings was in the garden when I left. Penny was quiet - no other birders around though I did spot Jonathan on the far side of the main flash when I started scanning the gull flock.

I did spot one bird that had some Caspian Gull features - it was large, bulky, long-winged, had a slender, parallel bill with no obvious gonys angle and the mantle colour was approx the same as an argentatus Herring gull. The head was not too pear-shaped and the gull was not near enough for close examination.
