The lone Golden Plover that has been at HGF for over a week

I was working in Burnley today so I popped round to Foulridge Reservoirs after work. Lovely to be back in the area I used to live in. The Red-throated Diver was on the upper reservoir but predictably right at the back with no footpath around the water. It seemed very lethargic. Six Swallows were also fizzing over the water. On the lower reservoir 14 Goosanders showed very well.

At HGF today the Golden Plover is still present - I watched it feeding this evening which is a good sign. Five Black-necked Grebes were present. Three of these were tucked up close to the north bank and were whizzing around and lurching in the water. Being thick it took me a few minutes to realise that they were catching insects.

In the garden nothing to report other than 2 Coal Tits and a male Reed Bunting. The usual pair of Grey Partridges are still spending most of their time in the field nr the back fence but are avoiding coming into the garden for some reason. Odd!
